Shri
Virbhadra Singh, Chief Minister honoured Shri Samresh Jang, Shri Vijay
Kumar and Smt. Anuja Jang for their performance in the Melborne Common
Wealth Games- 2006 at Dharamsala today. He presented a draft of Rs. 30
lacs to Shri Samresh Jang for winning five gold, one silver and one
bronze medals in the Melborne Common Wealth Games, Rs. 10 lacs to Shri
Vijay Kumar for winning two gold medals and Rs. 8 lacs to Smt. Anuja
Jang for winning one gold and one silver medals.
Shri Virbhadra Singh felicitated these players for their excellent
performance in the Melborne Common Wealth Games-06 and said that these
players were honoured as per the announcement made by him during the
Vidhan Sabha Session held in March, 06. As per the announcement, the
winner of gold medal was to be given Rs. 5 lacs, silver medal, Rs. 3
lacs and bronze medal, Rs. 2 lacs.
He said that the Government was committed to promote sports activities
and players were being provided required facilities. He said that the
State Government was striving hard to chisel the genius of the players
by providing basic sports facilities in the schools and added that the
State Government would continue to honour all players who perform well
and win medals for the country in important international events.
Shri Ram Lal Thakur, Youth Services and Sports Minister detailed about
the various schemes being implemented by the State Government for the
welfare of sportspersons.
Shri Samresh Jang, who won 38 gold, 21 silver and 8 bronze so far in
various national sports events, has the distinction of winning 26 gold,
16 silver and 8 bronze in different international events. He was also
declared the best player of the Melborne Common Wealth Games.
Shri Vijay Kumar has the credit of winning 24 gold, 8 silver and 24
bronze in different national shooting events.
Smt. Anuja Jang wife of Shri Samresh Jang bagged 17 gold, 12 silver and
10 bronze medals in different national shooting events so far.
