Rewalsar
It is a mid altitude lake located in
district Mandi, and is about 1360m above sea level.
Location:-
Disatnce from main Mandi town:- 24kms.
It is shaped like a square with the
shoreline of about 735m. It is held as a sacred spot for Hindus,
Sikhs and Buddhists alike. The lake of Kunt Bhyog which is about
1750m above sea level lies above Rewalsar.
The lake is surrounded by stunning
Tibetan Gompas. There are lots of old Tibetan Pilgrims that spend
all day doing Parikrama around the lake, which is brimming with
large fish that come to the edge of the lake en masse to be fed
bread etc by the pilgrims. You can take a bus journey up up & up for
about 45mins to Padmasambhavas caves where he did penance before
setting off for Tibet to spread/teach Buddhism the view of the
snowcapped mountains is wonderful from here & there are hundreds, no
thousands of prayer flags blowing about in the wind.
